Jason Lockhart reviews the Sherlock Holmes Blu-ray Collection from the Film Detective.
The collection includes four Blu-rays with restored films and bonus features.
The films include A Study in Scarlet, Sherlock Holmes' Fatal Hour, The Triumph of Sherlock Holmes, and The Silver Blaze.
The collection is a must-have for Sherlock Holmes fans and classic cinema enthusiasts.
Greetings to Classic Cinema and TV fans, this is Jason Lockhart, Pastor Jay, here with you once again on another Retro Drive-In Podcast, and we are back with you once again. This is the Christmas season, this is our Christmas edition, and we have a really, really spectacular release we're talking about today and uh this one uh when i heard about this release it was so amazing that i just i was like uh instantly ready for it to come out the moment i heard about it and uh was i've been waiting with bated breath for for it seems like forever for this to finally be released and it has finally uh uh graced classic cinema plus studios and wow what an amazing release it is. We'll talk about it in just a second, but it's all about Sherlock Holmes. Many of you physical media fans probably already know about this release, but it is pretty cool. It's a brand new box set of Sherlock Holmes. Now... The film detective has done some amazing things for the month of December. Now, just as a little side note, just to let people know, that there is this, which is pretty cool as well. The film detective has released a special bonus along with the Sherlock Holmes release. They released The Fabulous Dorseys. That is a pretty amazing thing. This film, The Fabulous Dorseys, have been transferred from a 4K archival scan. Unbelievable. Looking forward to this. This one has, for music fans and those old musical films, this is a must-on. But there's all kinds of bonus features on this. We'll have a full written review of this as well at Classic Cinema Plus. But that's just a side note. We're actually dealing today with probably one of the coolest releases I've seen for 2021. This one probably is right up there as one of the best things I've seen this year. It really is. This is the film detective. Look at this. The Sherlock Holmes vault collection. Oh my goodness gracious. Look at this. Four blu-rays. Unbelievable. Love this box set art. Oh, my goodness, this is amazing. This is great. This is great stuff. Wait, don't you? Four Blu-rays here. Pretty, pretty cool. We're going to take these out and kind of let you see what you get in this. All of these films have been restored and are in new scans, so that's really, really cool. But we get A Study in Scarlet. Pretty awesome. love that and this is with Reginald Owen Reginald Owen is in one of my favorite Christmas carols of all time love that but Reginald Owen is in this playing Charlotte Holmes very very cool a study in Scarlet in this you get bonus features Very cool bonus features You get audio commentaries elementary cinema a little documentary Slick Sleuths, a bonus Mutt and Jeff cartoon, and all kinds of cool stuff on this. Pretty cool. In addition, we also get Sherlock Holmes' Fatal Hour. Love that. That is so cool. this one also comes with audio commentary Adventures of Sam Sherman Part 1 The Fatal Hour featurette you get the Sherlock Holmes and the Blue Carbuncle the radio broadcast, pretty cool a black Sherlock Holmes 1918 cut bonus short, very cool as well as the uncut bonus short as well. And Sherlock Holmes baffled a bonus early 1900 bonus short. Very awesome. This thing is just, these are just jam-packed with stuff. Wow. We also get The Triumph of Sherlock Holmes. Really, really cool. This comes with liner notes. The Adventures of Sam Sherman Part 2, The Triumph of Sherlock Holmes featurette. Copper Beaches which is a 1912 bonus short and Blind Man's Buff, a 1964 bonus TV episode. Very cool. Now on Blu-ray. Awesome. Pretty awesome. Love that. All these are on this set. Wow. And then finally we get the Silver Blaze. Love this. This comes with commentary as well as the Adventures of Sham Sherman Part 3, the Silver Blaze featurette. Pretty cool. Sure Luck Holmes, the Felix the Cat bonus short. Awesome. Cousins of Shiloko, kind of a bonus feature, bonus short from 1913. And an essay as well. All kinds of good stuff. This is one amazing set. I have to say, the film detective went above and totally beyond with this Blu-ray set. I mean, jam-packed with all kinds of bonus features, this really is one set that I am so excited about. To actually see some of the old classic Sherlock Holmes films being restored and getting a deluxe box set like this release is just amazing. Totally deserved. These old Sherlock Holmes films are just spectacular. There's something about them that just, they take you to a different time. and really is, it kind of takes you to a different time and you go along for this ride with the greatest detective of all time, Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Watson, and you're right in there and just enjoying the adventures. They're just so well produced from back in the day and no doubt they're going to be spectacular on Blu-ray. Now in all honesty I haven seen any of these yet I just talking about them because this just arrived at Classic Cinema Plus Studios So I haven seen them yet We going to have a full written review once we watch all these and kind of examine them and see how the restorations are So you'll want to keep your eyes open to Classic Cinema Plus and see what they look like, and we'll have that full written review. But I will say, with the film detective, I've been reviewing them for quite a while now, and I have yet to be disappointed with one of their releases. I have never been disappointed. They have always went above and beyond, and the quality of their releases are spectacular. So, yeah, I have no doubts in my mind that this is going to be so stellar and so amazing. I'm looking so forward to this that I just, I don't know what else to say. What? Hmm? What? Oh, no. Wait a minute, Vinnie. They... What? I will not have that botanical freak in this room. If you're looking for something really, really cool for somebody that is a classic cinema fan, maybe a Sherlock Holmes fan or something during the holiday season, if you're looking for a Christmas gift or a Hanukkah gift or a Kwanzaa or whatever, whatever you celebrate. If you're looking for a good holiday gift for someone that is a fan of classic movies or Sherlock Holmes, I do highly suggest this one. This vault collection of the Sherlock Holmes from the film Detective is just amazing. You can just, this deserves to be displayed. And that's probably what's going to happen here at Classic Cinema Plus Studios. This looks like a piece of art. This literally is like a piece of art. I mean, this is just gorgeous. So, yeah. We'll probably be displaying this on the shelf. It's not going to be just sitting there. No, it's going to be displayed like a piece of art. because it really is that awesome. Wow. So, so excited about this. And as we said, if you're also looking for something for someone that is maybe a musical fan, yeah, definitely pick up The Fabulous Dorseys. That's going to be a really good release as well. I know it is. As we said, we're never disappointed with the film Detective. They have went above and beyond in every release, and every release is amazing. I have yet to be disappointed by anything they've done. They are spectacular. I like it. I like it. So what are your thoughts on the Sherlock Holmes collection? What would you like to see? Something that I'd like to see, to be honest with you, is I'd like to see a volume two. That's what I'd like to see. I'd like to see a volume two of this. I'd like to see the film detective give us a volume two. That would be so cool. Can you imagine seeing two of these and then maybe three? I love to see all these old classics getting a release from archival footage and in high definition restored I would love to see that And if I was to have my choice of any company to do it it would be the film detective They really love these films. You can tell it. It's not just something they're doing just to make money. It's not. They have a love for these classic films. And that is what is so cool about seeing this company restore these films. and release these films, you can see with these packaging and with this stuff that they really love these films. And that's why I love to review the film Detective because they have the same kind of love for classic films that I do. To me, there is nothing like those old films. Does that mean I don't watch the newer films? Of course not. I still watch the newer films, and I like them, I enjoy them. but if I really want to see something good, what do I go to? I go to a classic. That's what we say. If you want to see a great film, check out a classic because the classic films are timeless. They never go out of style. There's just a class to them. There's a real class to them. That's why it's classic, right? So, yeah, I'm hoping Film Detective will give us volume 2 and 3 and 4 and 5, maybe six and seven. I'd love to see a whole bunch. I'd love to see our entire shelf filled with restored Sherlock Holmes. Maybe that'll happen. I hope so. But anyway, so what one are you most excited about?
