The His name was Preston Jericho, an award-winning actor who was considered unprofessional, passing out on set, falling asleep for hours at a time, pushing film production behind schedule, and suffering violent outbursts. His once promising career is over way too soon. Her name is Eve Davis, a nature documentary filmmaker and a huge fan of Preston Jericho. She wanted to know the truth behind the disappearance of her favorite actor. So she hounded his agent until he finally got her a meeting with the great Preston Jericho. You've wanted this meeting. Now you've got it. Now spill your guts and tell me what you want so I can get back to doing what I want to do. I want the truth. Why did you walk away from the spotlight? Just the truth. You're not reading any of the papers. The papers lay it all out for everybody. It pretty much tells everybody what it is. I am a complete and raging drunk. Oh, I heard the rumors. I mean, the rumors. But, you know, I really want to know the truth. Take a good look, lady. Look. Don't you get it? No. I think I'm seeing a great actor in his greatest performance ever. Get out of my house, lady, and just leave me get drunk, okay? Just leave me get drunk. What's so funny? That's going to be a little difficult. Why? You can hardly get drunk on pomegranate juice and green tea. At least I have never heard anybody that got drunk on pomegranate juice and green tea I mean hey you might be the first You an actor How do I know But I don think you will What do you want from me? I want the truth. Truth is I'm dying of terminal cancer Let's tell the world exactly what it is I'm a filmmaker I can tell your story And they won't think you're a drunkard They will know that you're still that strong actor No, no, no Absolutely not Not gonna happen Why? Why? Why not? I don't want the world's pity. They'll find out the truth soon enough. Anyone that knows Eve realizes one thing. She is persistent. She wasn't leaving Preston's residence without his consent to do his documentary. And after several months of shooting and editing, Requiem for an Entertainer made its debut on the film festival scene. It became a rousing success and the reviews were love letters to the actor's bravery in telling his story. Ever since I can remember as a small child, all I ever wanted to do was be like those entertainers on the silver screen. I wanted to be able to bring the joy that I felt as a kid to people that same way. That's why I went into Summerstock and started to act in theater and all to gain that, that I needed, that experience. When I got the opportunity to do movies, it was the greatest thing in my life. To me there was no big part or small part every part that I played I tried to give everything that I had to every role Now, there have been rumors that I was a drunk or maybe a drug addict. And with this film that we're doing, I want to dispel all rumors at this time. I never drank any alcohol in my life and I never did any drugs. What happened to me is my doctors found a large tumor in the middle of my brain. It was so deep down that they couldn't operate and there was no real way to treat it. So many of the reports that said I was drunk on set or whatever was wrong. But I don't deny the fact that I probably was maybe a little hard to deal with at times, but it was not something that I meant to do. for any of the actors or directors or producers that I may have hurt with my words or my actions. I sincerely apologize. and for all productions that halted because of this thing. All I can say is that I am sorry. My friend Eve Davis wanted to do this film and I have obliged to do it but one thing I want to make perfectly clear in this is I do not want any pity. That is why I disappeared and I haven't said anything. I don't want anybody's pity. I just want you to remember what I put on screen. Requiem for an entertainer Gain many awards But that is not why Eve did this She did this for the redemption Of a man's reputation At the end of the awards year The Classic Film Council's Board of Directors Decided that Preston deserved A Lifetime Achievement Award Preston even though Extremely weakened by his condition insisted on being there to receive the award.
