Jason Lockhart reviews new Blu-ray releases from various companies.
The releases include foreign films, Westerns, and horror movies.
Each release comes with bonus features, such as English subtitles, bonus artwork, and booklets.
Jason Lockhart is excited to share his first look at these new releases with the audience.
Greetings Classic Cinema and TV fans, this is Jason Lockhart here with you once again bringing you another Silver Screen Spotlight. And this is a special edition because we're looking at some brand new releases, upcoming releases if you will, from the good folks at a bunch of different places actually. We got these from MVD Visual, but these are from all different kinds of companies. And we're talking about this good little stack of videos here. All Blu-rays coming your way. And we're going to jump right into it, give you a first look. All these will be coming for review. But this is pretty cool. First off, Amnesia. It's a foreign film, and it's Amnesia. And it's basically a psychological mystery thriller about a photographer who returns home to find his family's dark secrets uncovered. That's pretty interesting. I'm looking forward to checking this one out. I have actually never seen this at all. As we said, it's a foreign film, but it does come with English subtitles. So that's interesting. So, yeah, slip cover. Inside, two discs. Also, bonus artwork on the inside. So, that's pretty cool. So, there you go. That's just a quick look at Amnesia. All right, for Westerns fans, here we go. European Westerns. This is pretty awesome. Love this. This is one of those ones that I saw and I was like, ooh, I've got to see this. Because I was like, wow, this looks pretty interesting. Seven from Texas. Clifford is in a rush to take his new wife, Maria, and rush her away because of an Indian uprising, supposedly. But more likely is because her former fiance, Bob Carey, has just been released from prison and is heading their way. All right. So that's kind of interesting like that. And then there's a bonus DVD in here as well that has $100,000 for Lasseter. Okay. I wasn't going to get that out. for Lassiter Okay And so that an interesting one A posse is closing in on Frank and Martin for robbing a bank Martin decides to leave Frank after he falls off his horse from a gunshot wound but he takes his half of the money too So interesting. Love this. This is a, as we said, Blu-ray and a bonus DVD. So there you go. Pretty awesome. They also have, look at this. This is pretty cool. You get some bonus postcards. Look at that. That is awesome. Pretty cool. There's also some booklets that has stuff about the films. These are filled with all kinds of good material. Very awesome. Love that. booklet there filled with amazing information. So cool. This is really cool. I love that. I know there's a lot of Westerns fans out there. So yeah, we'll let you know all about that one coming up in a little bit. So there you go. I always loved Jackie Chan. Jackie Chan was always a lot of fun. And this one is gorgeous. This is starring Jackie Chan. All right. So basically, it's about a beautiful woman who finds a message in a bottle. She travels to Hong Kong in search of the writer of the note, believing him to be her true love. However, she instead falls in love with the businessman played by Jackie Chan. But the plot soon becomes more complicated when bitter rivals rise to the surface in this all out action packed romantic comedy. So that's awesome. Love that. Gorgeous. And this actually has the Hong Kong cut, but it also has the international cut that comes in English, or English dubbing. Yes. Love that. So yeah, pretty cool. So it's on this disc like that. There's also additional artwork on the inside cover like that. There you go. Pretty cool. That's actually more of the international version of the cover, if you will. In addition, you get, which I always loved about 88 Films. 88 Films are doing this with all their releases, and I think it's so cool. They give you a poster, a little poster that you can use, two-sided poster. Very awesome. I always think that is so cool I don know I just think that is so cool to add a poster in there It pretty cool Booklet filled with all kinds of information about the film So that pretty awesome This is for fans of horror Okay This is Calamity of Snakes Now Calamity of Snakes is about a developer who's developing this apartment building complex, right? And he finds that on the property, there is a pit filled with a bunch of snakes. So he tries to eliminate all the snakes, destroy all the snakes, exterminate them. And then he builds the apartment complex, has everybody moved in, and then come to find out he didn't eliminate them after all. And so that's where the idea of calamity of snakes arises up. kind of interesting to see this version. Now, I will tell you this, which I love, there is an English dub for this film as well. Yes. I love them when they're dubbed. I don't know. There's something about the bad English dubbing from foreign films. I grew up on Godzilla films. So to me, seeing those like that, it just, it takes me back to my childhood. I love it. Uh, so yeah, so we get an English dub. Uh, but there's something that's really interesting about this as well. For those that, uh, uh, do not like cruelty to animals, uh, there is a cruelty free version of this film as well, which I find extremely interesting. All right. So that is from, Unearthed Films. All right. From the good folks at VCI Entertainment, this is Tonight or Never. All right. This is featuring Gloria Slonson and Melvin Douglas. And this is really interesting. Gloria Slonson plays a opera singer whose career is going down fast. And it all changes when she meets this handsome devil. Yeah, so this is kind of interesting. I actually have never seen this film, so this one is going to be interesting to see. It comes with a commentary track, and there's also a booklet that gives you all kinds of information about the film there as well. There's an interesting inside picture. And there's also the disc there. It looks like that. So that's pretty cool. We'll have more about this film when we take a look at it. So yeah, Tonight or Never featuring Gloria Swanson All right now it time for the main event Ladies and gentlemen when it time for your main event This is from VCI Entertainment I love my superhero comic book movies and stuff And this is pretty cool. The original Green Hornet film serial on Blu-ray. Pretty awesome. Now, this one is really interesting. I actually thought we had this in Classic Cinema Plus Studios here. I really did. I thought we had this not on Blu-ray, but on DVD. I thought I had this. And so I went looking around through the massive collection that is here and I went through everything and I found out I don't have the original serial on DVD. What we have, which I knew I had something, but I didn't know which one. I have this version. this is the movie version okay so what this is is this is the serial that was um cut down and uh put into movie format into 84 minutes long and it's uh tinted and it's got the green tints and all that type of stuff so it's made like a film but it's the 13 um episodes of the film cliffhanger series and edited down into a movie. So that's what I have actually. So I don't actually have the Green Hornet serial in physical media format. Well, now we do. This is from VCI Entertainment as well. And this is pretty cool. I'm really excited about this because this comes, the 13 episodes of the serial are found on two discs. That's pretty awesome. There's also a booklet that features all kinds of information about this serial, which I love. And in addition to this, you also get some bonus features, including some radio episodes of the Green Hornet. So that is really awesome. Awesome. So there you go.
