Greetings, Classic Cinema and TV fans. Jason back with you once again, bringing you another Classic Cinema Plus video review here. And today we're talking about a classic TV show and you're not going to want to miss it. So be sure to like, share and subscribe. All right. Today we're talking about a classic TV show from the mind of Neil Simon. Neil Simon, of course, an amazing playwright, wrote many, many stage productions, and those stage productions were then made into movies and TV series, as far as that goes, with what we're talking today. But Neil Simon wrote an amazing stage production, and it was made into a movie, and it was called The Odd Couple. Now, The Odd Couple, of course, deals with Felix and Oscar, two guys, divorcees, that are thrown together to live together and try to learn to live together, if you will. and one is a slob and the other one is a neat freak and uh they're compete a complete uh uh rabble rousing together and and fighting one another you need to clean this up i want to live the way i want to live and and it was just a lot of fun uh the film of course starred jack lemon and walter matthow but it was a it was a humongous success i mean humongous success and um so after the success of the movie, they decided to make it into a TV series. And the TV series would not star Walter Matthau and Jack Lemmon, but would in turn instead star Jack Klugman and Tony Randall. And this show was so good. Oh, so much fun. And it lasted for five seasons. And it was simply amazing. We have seen it released on DVD, but now, oh, so excited for this brand new Blu-ray complete set of the series The Odd Couple You believe this Look at this This is so awesome Look at that So cool. That is amazing. Just to give you a quick look, first season in yellow, second season in blue, third season in green, fourth season pink fifth season in red and I love that that they have color codes for each season now all the discs are um black are um uh gray and uh that's how every season has their discs it would have been nice to see them actually in red and yellow and and blue and for the can you know for the seasons but eh it is what it is now I haven't gone through all this yet but I have watched quite a few episodes of this series here, and I have to tell you, this looks like a pretty good upgrade compared to the DVDs that we have here at Classic Cinema Plus Studios. Of course, these are presented in 1080p, but they are in their original full screen format, so you don't have that picture stretching, which absolutely drives me nuts when you see the picture go and stretch out. Oh, it drives me crazy. I would rather have the 1080p with the black bars and have it in full screen. That's the way it was presented. That's the way it was produced. That's the way it was supposed to be. So that's the way it's supposed to be. Full screen format. There is English mono, DTS HD master audio, and there is English subtitles for deaf and hard of hearing, which is always a nice plus. We have a lot of different, there's audio intros by Gary Marshall, which is really, really cool. We get all kinds of bonus features. I don't have time to go through all the bonus features, but tons of bonus features, just some of them. There's series promos. There's Randall and Klugman on the Mike Douglas program. Uh, Jack Klugman's book tour home videos. Very, very cool. Uh, just some of that's on there. There's outtakes of war of course and uh gag reels Um again more um Gary Marshall Marshall intros on select episodes in season two Same thing in season three Same thing in season four We not seeing too much on season five here. Like I said, I have just started watching these, so I haven't really even gone through the whole series yet. No, it doesn't look like bonus features on the fifth season, but that's okay. I mean, we're talking, you're getting five seasons of The Odd Couple on Blu-ray, and like I said, the audio quality, the audio's really crisp, really clean. No hiss, no pops, no anything like that that I've seen so far, and on the episodes that I have seen, when I look at them in comparison to our DVDs that are here, they do look like they're a little more crisp. I mean, you're not going to see like mind-blowing, amazing graphics like it's so like a million times better. I don't think you're going to see that much, but I do think it's a lot crisper. The episodes look a little more crisp and they're a little more clean. So I do think they look a lot better in my opinion. But I love this series. Jack Klugman is absolutely hilarious as Oscar Madison, and Tony Randall is so good as the finicky Felix Unger. I mean, they're just hilarious. This series is just so much fun. We get guest stars on here as well. One of my favorites was that they got to guest star in one of these episodes was Roy Clark in the final season, the Roy Clark show, which is really, really cool. I love that because I'm a fan of music. I'm a DJ at a radio station. So to me, I've always loved music, whether it be oldies, rock and roll, country, whatever. I love all of it. Um, so to me, uh, having Roy Clark, that's, that's always a plus. One of my favorite episodes, of course, is the Christmas episode found in season one. I love that one so much. Uh, Scrooge gets an Oscar. Uh you know Oscar Madison is is being Scroogey at the Christmas season if that a word Scroogey But anyway and he has fantasies and dreams that Felix is taking him through his life as Ebenezer Madison So much fun. And the cop, Murray, plays Tiny Tim, and he continuously through that episode just keeps saying, God bless us all, everyone, and rubs his face on people's sleeves. Never could understand that, but it was funny. And Oscar Madison as Ebenezer Madison is so funny because when he looks back, he's dressed up as a child. And he talks about how that Santa, he wanted a pony, but all he got was a rubber duck with a busted honker. It's hilarious. It is a fun series. It's so much fun. And I highly, highly recommend it. It does look a lot better, at least a little bit better anyway. I won't say a lot better, but it does look like a definite upgrade in the picture quality. So, yeah, definitely check it out. We'll have a full written review of all of the bonus features, of all the episodes, all the stuff that is in this set at Classic Cinema Plus coming up. As soon as we go through it, we're getting there. We're getting there. But this is just kind of a first look and just talking about the picture quality, what we've seen so far. And it does definitely look better than the DVDs. So definitely an upgrade. So, yeah, if you're a fan of classic TV like me, definitely you may want to get a copy of The Odd Couple on the complete series on Blu-ray. It is so cool. Love that. It is awesome.
