Greetings, classic cinema and TV fans. Jason here with you once again on another Classic Cinema Plus. Today we are looking back, looking at a new release, I should say, from the good folks at MVD Visual and Cleopatra Entertainment. And we're talking about this new Blu-ray release. This is, are you ready for it? Here it comes. Blood and Snow. Okay. The tagline says, don't capture what you can't keep. Interesting. Okay. So let's be honest here. Um, this is kind of, um, I hate to say a, um, a ripoff, but, uh, in a way it may be a little bit of a ripoff of a previous film. Let's just, let's just read what it is and then we'll talk about it. Um, two scientists uncover a meteorite impact site in the Arctic tundra, But it kills one of the scientists and infects the other. A nearby base takes in the lone survivor while trying to understand what happened. The lone survivor may not be the person they think she is. Okay, so let's go back in time a little bit first, okay? Okay, probably most horror fanatics remember John Carpenter's classic The Thing. Okay, this is an iconic film. Okay, this is a film in cinema history that is, for most people, like the quintessential creature feature, if you will. Uh but uh the thing okay was not what that was a remake too if you want to be totally honest about it because in the 50s there was The Thing from Another World okay and The Thing from Another World, now, I love The Thing from Another World, that is, that is really an amazing film, I think the reason I love The Thing from Another World so much is the fact that it, the thing, the alien creature is actually James Arness, Matt Dillon from Gunsmoke. Yeah, that's the creature. That's the thing from another world. And I love that. I love that. Although you probably would not even realize that it's Marshall Dillon. But it is. It's Marshall Dillon. And I think that's what I love about that film so much is that you're seeing this towering thing from another world coming in and out, and it's Marshall Dillon. But it's so cool. That's one of my favorite creature features. I really do. But see, John Carpenter came along, and he took the idea of the thing from another world and made it the thing and then just took the creepiness to a whole completely different level. with insane creature effects and all kinds of stuff. And so Carpenter's The Thing has literally became like the quintessential, and I mean that, creature feature from the 80s. And a lot of people just think it's just the best of all time. I would say it is definitely up there. It is really, really good. But let's be honest, this film has been remade and there's even been a prequel for the film. You'll see it there. The prequel of the film. And it's been released on Blu-ray as well. So the idea of the thing and that kind of thing has been played out time and time again. We even see it in an episode of one of my favorite science fiction mystery adventure shows of all time X Yeah definitely you need to check out that episode That is pretty creepy Um but it been done time after time after time many many directors have been inspired by the thing or the thing from another world. And, um, as we read here with, uh, blood and snow, this is a version of the thing. I mean, that's exactly what this is. You can tell it just by the title, I mean, by the synopsis. You can tell this is a thing, movie, I hate to say remake, but more or less it's a love letter, if you will. Because filmmakers and screenwriters, they take what they love and then they kind of rework it and then they make it their own. So that's what happens a lot of times. And you can see it. I have watched the trailer. I have not watched the full film yet. But I have seen the trailer. And a lot of times you can tell what the film is through the trailer. Okay. This is the thing. That's what this is. You can basically tell the story that this is the thing. But it looks very interesting. Now, I'll have a full written review of this release coming up at Classic Cinema Plus. But it's interesting. I will say as far as the transfer goes, I have looked at it. The transfer looks pretty good. It looks pretty crisp, pretty clean. It looks like a really good transfer. Um, uh, bonus features include the trailer and a image slideshow of, uh, this release. So, uh, pretty interesting. Uh, Cleopatra Entertainment, uh, does release a lot of the, the lower budget, uh, horror, uh, flicks that are, uh, that so many people, horror movie fans, uh, clamor for. And with the help of one of my favorite companies, MVD. MVD is just amazing. They release so many cool stuff. And they joined forces with MVD and they are releasing Blood and Snow now on Blu Pretty awesome I will tell you let you see the inside disc pretty much the same artwork there. You can see that for yourself. It's pretty much the same. So not a whole lot of difference there. But really an interesting looking film. I'm looking forward to check it out and have a full written review of it. But it looks really interesting. But there's no doubt about it. It is basically a version of the thing. There's no doubt about it. But if you love the thing and you love those creature features and those things that kind of jump scare and do things like that, Blood and Snow is probably going to be one that you're going to say, I got to check that one out.
